Renovation and increase  in timber construction during operation

Special construction / building class 5

The project involves adding a storey to an existing building from the 1980s with the addition of a large garage while a department store is still in operation (special construction/ building class 5). The construction project is in the extension of the pedestrian zone in Kempten, in the direct inner city location.  Retail space is located on the existing ground floor and first floor. The entire 2,000 square meter pharmaceutical production of a pharmacy is housed on the 2nd floor (extension), which is connected to the existing production rooms on the opposite side of the street by means of a glass walkway.  The 3rd floor (increase) includes office and residential uses. The additions were made of wood to ensure a short construction period thanks to a high degree of prefabrication.
